The Philips CX50 is a shared service ultrasound machine largely used in radiology and OB/GYN practices for cardiovascular applications. The CX50 launched in 2009 as the first Philips portable ultrasound and soon became recognized as one of the most advanced portable systems in the world. The Philips CX50 continues to this day to be one of the only premium portable ultrasounds that supports both PureWave single crystal and xMatrix transducers. The only major imaging capability the CX50 doesn’t have is 4D imaging for OB/GYN applications. However, the CX50 can offer 4D imaging for cardiac applications using an X7-2t xMatrix probe. The compact size of the CX50 means it fits well in surgical, emergency, and point-of-care practices where space is tight and mobility is important. All versions of the CX50 except the initial A.0 revision are stable and reliable. In terms of the average price, a refurbished Philips CX50 ultrasound costs between $27,000 and $42,000, depending on its age, degree of past use, optional features, and whether it comes with transducers. If you are looking for a powerful portable ultrasound with high-quality imaging and advanced features built-in, then the Philips CX50 is worth considering. The Philips iU22 is a premium shared service ultrasound machine that offers superior image quality through xMatrix transducers that offer the best aspects of single-crystal and 4D transducers. In clinical settings, the Philips iU22 offers top-of-the-line image quality and features available for radiology, OB/GYN, cardiac, vascular, and specialty imaging applications, such as MSK, pediatric, and elastography. (For cardiovascular-specific applications, the nearly identical Philips iE33 is slightly better equipped.) The average price for a used Philips iU22 ultrasound is between $8,100 and $14,100, depending on the year of the system, its condition and degree of past use, and whether transducers are included in the package. While Philips has since replaced the iU22 with the more modern Philips Epiq 5 ultrasound, the price differential between the Epiq 5 and iU22 means the latter continues to be a popular choice for physicians who need high image quality at an affordable price. In fact, the iU22, which was launched in 2004, has a long history of improvements and revisions that have made it the gold standard for over a decade.

The Philips iE33 is a premium level cardiovascular ultrasound machine that was launched in 2004 and has been revised and improved over the past decade. In 2010 Philips launched the iE33 xMatrix, a major update that supported the brand new xMatrix transducers with thousands of elements each and capable not only of extraordinary image quality, but also viewing images in 2 planes in real time as well as 4D without the need for a mechanical probe. The Philips iE33 xMatrix also has the powerful QLAB quantification package and a host of other cardiovascular specific software enhancements that speed and add diagnostic confidence to standard cardiac and vascular exams. The Epiq 7 has replaced the iE33, but as it has over a decade of being the cardiovascular gold standard it remains one of the most popular ultrasound machines in demand. Those looking for similar power and features at the premium level who focus on OB/GYN or radiology should consider instead the Philips iU22 which looks identical to the iE33 except for one touchscreen while the iE33 has two.
